AmericaFest, Andrew Gold, and making antisemitism sound excusable

AmericaFest, Andrew Gold, and making antisemitism sound excusable

Andrew Gold goes on Times Radio to explain MAGA infighting at AmericaFest. In doing so, he offers a claim: that white men, and “white women as well”, are routinely shamed and even shut out of hiring for who they are. He then treats the backlash as predictable, even “a relief”, and names “horrible things about Jews” as part of what follows. This piece looks at the gap between that picture and how Americans report discrimination, and at how grievance talk can slide into conspiracy logic where Jews end up as the culprit.

Perhaps we should mourn the festivity that was taken away from us, just as we mourn the deaths and suffering that occurred during that festival. JewThink solicited contributions from British Jews reflecting on their experiences of the festival. Let us remember these ruptures even as we try and come to terms with the wider rupture.
